Above redline...?
I took my car to do some drag race at the track. It´s a Corvette with auto transmission, but the thing is that I was racing it shifting from 1st, to 2nd and so on. When I started I stepped on the gas going on first gear, and when I reached 4600 rpms, I shifted to second gear but my car didn´t change the gear until it reached like 5150 rpms (the redline starts at 5000 rpms and the limit is 6000 rpms) and then it came back to normal operating levels. The engine did last like a second over the rev limiter and never climbed more than 150 rpms above the redline, but the question is: is this going to mess up my engine? Why my car didn´t change gear after I move the shifter to second? I never like to overev my engines but what I want to know is if this isolated incident will cause me any trouble.
most newer cars will shift their self when it comes close to redline as the computer is controlling the shift when you put it to the floor like that.
